Portsmouth #myboycandance photoshoot
Portsmouth, UK - would you like to take part in our first photoshoot to stand up against the stigma that male dancers face?
Time & Location
22 Sept 2019, 10:00 – 16:00
My Boy Can, Southsea, Portsmouth, UK
About the event
My Boy Can know there is still a stigma with our male dancers and families who encourage and support their children when they dance. We've heard it first hand in Portsmouth from some individuals with comments like "ballet is for girls, not boys" "dancing means you're gay" "my boy won't be a dancer"
Whether from other children or adults, there is an underlying stigma that surrounds young boys and dancing. We believe this needs to change. That language towards boys dancing needs to become more positive. That people need to show more support for children and families who enjoy dancing. And maybe even impact society so that dance becomes less about gender and celebrated by all as something our girls and boys should enjoy.
To kick start our campaign, we are inviting all male dancers from a PO postcode to take part in our FREE photoshoot. The images will be used towards a social media campaign for My Boy Can and bring our community of male dancers together for future projects throughout the year here in Portsmouth.
If you'd like to get involved then please email info@myboycan.co.uk with age, style of dance and dance school you attend.Â
