MY BOY CAN are delighted to be hosting our

Boys Winter Online Dance Competition

Saturday 13th February 2021

 

 

Please ensure you read ALL the rules and regulations on this page.

​

This competition will be a LIVE competition. You will be given a time on the day to perform within a Zoom room. Times will be confirmed 6th February 2021.

Age Groups

Age 5-6 | Youth Level

ONLY BALLET, CONTEMPORARY & STREET  are available to ages 5-6 years. Ages 5-6 will be sent a choreographed piece to learn online at home to perform in the competition for BALLET, CONTEMPORARY & STREET ONLY.

Age 7-9 | Junior Level

Ages 7-9 will be sent a choreographed piece to learn online at home to perform in the competition for Ballet, Contemporary and Street. All others will be up to you to provide the choreography for.

AGE 10-12 | Senior Level

Age 13 -16 | Associate Level

​

​

All Competitors are to perform a 1.30 - 2 minute dance of their choosing. You can choreograph this yourself or perform a dance you learned at your dance school (with your dance schools permission)

​

MY BOY CAN will be providing choreography for  Ages 5-6 and Ages 7-9 categories in BALLET, CONTEMPORARY & STREET for this competition. You will be emailed the link to the choreography on 1st February. This allows all contestants to learn the choreography at the exact same time.

Dance Genres

BALLET:
Using Ballet techniques and classical steps within a routine. Ballet shoes and Point shoes are allowed.

​

​

CONTEMPORARY:
A dance routine that combines a modern style, with lyrical, jazz, modern or ballet techniques incorporating balance, control and musical interpretation.

​

​

STREET:
Urban based dance style often performed to hip hop or current music.  Routines can include breaking, popping, locking, krumping, freezes, gymnastics etc. or any new social dance being introduced to the streets

​

​

MUSICAL THEATRE (Song & Dance)

An interpretation of a song from a West End, Broadway or movie musical (can include backing vocals). Performance must include singing and dancing.

​

 

TAP:

Routine must include tap technique and primarily tap work. Please no pre-recorded tap sounds in music.

Judging system

Judges:
We take great pride in each and every one of our judges who are specifically chosen and are of the highest industry standard. 

​

Each category is judged by a professional from within the industry. 

​

​

 

Points:

We Score out of 100 based on the following:

​

  • Technique

  • Musicality

  • Choreography

  • Overall Performance

​

 

LIVE COMPETITION:

This competition will be LIVE on Saturday 13th February 2021.

​

You will be given a time to enter a Zoom room to compete in your chosen category/categories. 

 

This event will be in the 1 day and each category will be given a specific time frame. 

​

Results will be given the next day. Individual feedback will be emailed to contestants.

Prizes

Medals:
All participants will receive a MY BOY CAN DANCE Medal if they do not place. We will post these to you all.

​

Certificates will be emailed to you to print at home.

​

​

Trophies:
We will have trophies for the boys who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each category and age group. We will post these to you after the competition.

​

​

Awards Ceremony:
The awards ceremony will be held LIVE at 6pm on Saturday 13th February within our Secret Facebook Group. 

Spectators

Secret Facebook Group:
We have set up a Facebook group already for anyone to join. This has access to the most up to date information and answers any questions you may have.

For this competition, we will be streaming LIVE into the Facebook group like the previous competition. For all family and friends to enjoy following the competition.

Payments

How to book:

Just £8 per entry per genre

All Participants receive a medal.

​

All Participants will need to Pay through our online booking service. We will only accept payments through the online booking system.

​

​

REFUNDS:

We will not issue any refunds should a participant not attend his allocated session. 

​

If you feel you have an exceptional circumstance, we would ask you to email MY BOY CAN management at info@myboycan.co.uk with a full explanation. MY BOY CAN will assess the case and decide the outcome. 

​

​

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING RULES AND REGULATIONS AS FAILURE TO COMPLY COULD RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.

​

  • This competition is exclusively for ALL boys ONLY.

  • Solo performers may never compete against themselves in the same age or performance category.

  • ALL competitors will compete via a LIVE Zoom meeting on 13th febraury 2021.

  • You may only compete once in one genre of dance. You may compete in various different genres.

  • If a genre of dance or an age group does not have more than 4 competitors- we will look to bringing the age groups together in order to ensure the boys can take part. Otherwise we will cancel that age group/category entirely. If we cancel- refunds will be issued. 

  • It is advisable to wear footwear suitable for your performance category

  • ALL competitors are the sole responsibility of their parent, MY BOY CAN is NOT responsible for any competitor.  ALL entrants under the age of 16 must be chaperoned by a nominated adult at any competition run by MY BOY CAN.  The chaperones will be accountable for the behaviour and welfare of minors at all our events. 

  • Age is determined by how old you are on the day of the competition.

  • If a protest regarding age arises, all competitors must be prepared to present proof of age.

  • No dangerous props may be used such as fire, swords, knives etc. 

  • General props and gymnastics mats are allowed. 

  • No form of liquids (including water), gels, aerosols, glitter, or confetti, etc. which may affect the stage surface, may be used during a routine.

  • All props must be in place within 1 minute 

  • You are to play your own music  at home for you to dance to. Please ensure this of a good volume for the Zoom room to hear properly. 

  • Sportsmanlike behaviour is expected at all times, failure to display proper decorum could result in immediate disqualification.

  • Please note that you can enter information and make changes up to two weeks before the event after that NO changes will be permitted.

  • All rights reserved to MY BOY CAN CIC to use competitor photographs and or videos or to appear on local and/ or national television and/ or promotional material 

  • Spectators/ members of the audience are expected to treat all competitors with respect and refrain from making unnecessary comments during/after performances, however once performances are complete cheering and encouragement are very welcome 

  • Our Online competitions are open for any boy to take part in. Spaces are limited and we will not be able to stretch to any extras once we have filled a session.

  • Balance must be paid in FULL on the day of booking.

  • NO REFUNDS

  • MY BOY CAN are not responsible for personal injury or property loss. 

  • MY BOY CAN reserves the right to reduce age groups or add age groups together, if the number of entries does not cover the minimum needed for the competition to go ahead. 

  • MY BOY CAN reserves the right to add or reduce competition days or move the competition due to unforeseen circumstance

  • Any change in competition days and/ or times is at the sole discretion of MY BOY CAN and will be determined by the amount of time available at each Competition.

  • ALL ENTRIES MUST COMPETE ON THE DAY AND TIME ASSIGNED ALL ENTRIES WHICH DO NOT COMPETE AT THEIR ASSIGNED DAY AND TIME WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE ADJUDICATED AND WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR HIGH SCORE OR BE AWARDED 1ST PLACE
